So much in here to like. All recipes come in under 350 calories and none takes longer than 30 minutes to make. In addition, Bobby Deen gives you a week's menu that keeps to 1500 calories. None of this would be worth a darn if it didn't taste good and Deen delivers a mix of Southern and Mediterranean inspired foods that are big on flavor.
Some of the highlights for me:
A lot of hearty salads such as quinoa, black bean and corn, and carrot-couscous. There is also a tabbouleh salad and a pilaf, both with bulgur wheat. I prefer to replace bulgur wheat with quinoa for more protein and less grain (so if you don't want to eat wheat, just use cooked quinoa. That also works for couscous, a small round pellet-shaped pasta.) There are dinner salads like chicken with cumin and potatoes.
Plenty of hearty things like California turkey burger, and a spinach-cheese stuffed pork chop. My favorite is also here, a good version of green chili chicken stew. I personally am not a fan of pork, so I substituted chicken boneless thighs, but you could actually serve a pork chop dinner and keep the entree under 350 calories. This is great for guys, who tend to like hearty, substantial foods.
Sides include roasted brussels sprouts and sweet and spicy roasted sweet potatoes. A dessert that I fancied was a raspberry mousse.
If you are cooking for a family, or if you are a guy who likes hearty, flavorful dishes and can't subsist on leafy salads and tofu, this is for you. I only found one recipe I really didn't like the sound of (trout stuffed with ham.) But you may like it.

#1 REVIEWER #1 HALL OF FAME VINE VOICE
I have Bobby Deen's first cookbook, and find it to be a very good one, so I have been looking forward to this one. It doesn't disappoint at all, and is a book that I will use often. (I usually read cookbooks for inspiration and fun, rather than for recipes to make exactly as written. This book is one whose recipes I will actually follow. One exception to that is the use of turkey bacon. Having looked into the differences between turkey, pork, and center-cut pork bacon, I'll stick with the real thing, preferring center-cut when I can get it.)
I started putting post-it notes on the pages where I found recipes that I want to fix soon, but before long, the book was full of post-it notes. Looks like I need to just jump in with both feet and start preparing the recipes. I don't think anyone who likes to cook and is concerned about making healthy yet delicious food will be disappointed with the purchase of this book. I've had over 250 cookbooks over the years, and this one is going to be used a lot. I'm even buying the Kindle version so that I'll always have the recipes and ingredients lists at hand, whether on my iPhone or my iPad.
