Dark Wolf Description
WHERE
DARK LYCAN ENDED,
DARK WOLF BEGINS...
BOOK NUMBER 25 IN CHRISTINE FEEHAN'S ACCLAIMED CARPATHIAN SERIES
#1
New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan now delivers her most eagerly awaited novel of all—ten years in the making—in the “the erotic, gripping series that has defined an entire genre” (J. R. Ward).
In
Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.
Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…
No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

Fans of Christine Feehan’s Dark series have been waiting a decade or so for this book. For some, there is no way anything she were to write would satisfy after a build like this. Others will be so glad to get the story, that it will be an automatic 5 star read. I’ll be honest, I went into this one with my expectations at an all-time low. The past few books have been so disappointing that I was ready to quit the series. Until I found out that Skyler and Dmitri were finally on the horizon. I’m pleased to say that I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would.
As the story begins, Dmitri is in the custody of the Lycans. He is being tortured for being a mixed blood. None of the Carpathians can find him. In fact, Skyler doesn’t even think they are looking. So she teams us with her friends Josef and Paul for a rescue mission. Let me stop here and share a few thoughts right off the bat. Skyler is one powerful young woman. She is also smart, resourceful, and determined to save her man. I loved that. But what I loved even more is that Dimitri accepted that. Of course, he wanted her to stay safe, but unlike most Carpathian males, he did not forbid her assistance. He was worried for her, but he listened to her. He respected her need to help him and her ability to be smart about it.
Back to the story. Dimitri is really messed up…. like, almost dead. Yet he never succumbs. He fights to live for Skyler. And about the first third of the book is tied up in his rescue. From then on, it’s about healing and dealing with the increasing tensions between the Carpathian and Lycan people. Tension, that could boil over into a war.
The plot was fairly good. But the best thing this book had going for it was the romance and its key players.
After reading Fen's book, I was a little disappointed with how short changed it felt he and Tatjana were in the romance plot department. I didn't know it could get worse.
I've been waiting for Skyler and Dmitri's book for nearly 20 books now... At least since Gabriel's story when we first met them and realized they were lifemates. I can't believe that after all this time and all the build up to their storyline, THIS is the treatment they get. Maybe it's because of Skyler's age but this book reads like a racy YAF-type book. If I was asked to describe it, I'd say it's more about the potential Lycan-Carpathian war than it is about Skyler and Dmitri.
It is palpably obvious that this sange-rau/Han- ku-whatever theme is being dragged out for the trilogy. This book spent most of the time dealing with this issue and to no effect, no significant progress was made from Fen's book and we didn't even get another party to show off all the cute Carpathian kiddies.
I've been so excited anticipating this book, I even pre-ordered it and kept checking from midnight release day whether it had loaded up on my kindle. I have to say I'm disappointed. Obviously this is readable because it's Christine Feehan but it also feels really disjointed, rushed and has lost the basic thing the author is awesome at- writing about the healing power of love for a damaged hero/heroine. This book to me was mostly spells, chants, all those things that the author has gotten more into the last 10 or so books. I could have done with fewer pages of Skyler's mage spells and a little more of her and Dmitri's romantic relationship.
Where this book shines is the times Sky and Dmitri are together. His consideration, understanding and love for her and her willingness to sacrifice her life for him.
