Marino's ICU Book has remained one of the most accessible and comprehensive intensive care resources available. The 3rd version, however, was woefully out of date -- until now. The 4th edition is fully updated, features colored illustrations and photographs, and offers a searchable online-version of the text for use with your iPad/smartphone/etc.
Despite owning a library of critical care texts, I won't often find myself reaching for my copy of Vincent's Critical Care again. This is an indispensable resource for medical students, residents, fellows, attendings, Pas and critical care RNs, etc. More than just a technical manual, it is often insightful, whimsical, and poignant. There are very few medical references that you can sit down with and actually read recreationally, but this is one of them.

I have the previous edition and was really excited that there were going to be pharmacology chapters in the new book. I think it definitely could have used a review from a pharmacist, however, because there are multiple typos and misinformation. Some of the references are interesting, too. A tertiary source should never be citing another tertiary source like, for example, the vancomycin dosing provided is a chart copied from UptoDate......like that's all there really is to it. I love the other chapers but I'm a little scared that I only like them because I don't know better? I never thought that before I read the pharmacology but now I'm questioning it.
