This volume wasn't as laugh out loud funny as some of the past volumes, but it still had a great story. Here were my spoiler-free highlights, followed by my spoiler-filled highlights:
Spoiler-free:
-It was great seeing Spider-Man 2099 in our present day story. As opposed to most of the times that two heroes fight each other before teaming up, the Superior Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man 2099 fight did not feel forced.
-I love time travel stories, and this was a great one, which tied directly into the bigger events happening in the Marvel Universe thanks to the Avengers' actions in the Age of Ultron.
-Peter, with Otto's mind inside, has a really interesting personal life, and I like how much they've made him feel like a whole new character in this run.
-Dan Slott is excellent and moving the story along for the other cast members in little, but continuous ways.
Spoilers:
-I'm really happy to see that Miguel O'Hara will be spending some time in the present instead of 2099. At first I was worried that there were too many Spider-Men running around in the 616 Universe, but it makes me kind of excited about story potential. If Otto's superior self gets to stick around after Peter Parker inevitably returns to the role of Spider-Man, we could see all of the following Spider-Men exist in the 616 at the same time:
~The Amazing Spider-Man
~The Superior Spider-Man
~Spider-Man 2099
~The Scarlet Spider (Kaine)
~Venom
~(I hope they bring back Ben Reilly!)
-I never read Spider-Ma 2099, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how they tied the present day Marvel Universe in with the 2099 version, particularly as it concerns Tiberius Stone and Alchemax.
