Watchmen: The Deluxe Edition Description
In an alternate world where the mere presence of American superheroes changed history, the US won the Vietnam War, Nixon is still president, and the cold war is in full effect. WATCHMEN begins as a murder-mystery, but soon unfolds into a planet-altering conspiracy. As the resolution comes to a head, the unlikely group of reunited heroes--Rorschach, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias--have to test the limits of their convictions and ask themselves where the true line is between good and evil.
In the mid-eighties, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons created WATCHMEN, changing the course of comics' history and essentially remaking how popular culture perceived the genre. Popularly cited as the point where comics came of age, WATCHMEN's sophisticated take on superheroes has been universally acclaimed for its psychological depth and realism.
WATCHMEN is collected here in deluxe hardcover, with sketches, extra bonus material and a new introduction by series artist Dave Gibbons.

Watchmen: The Deluxe Edition was simply worth the wait. The closest thing that came to this "Deluxe" edition before its publication was the "Absolute" edition, which was much more expensive and is not uncommon for many DC/Vertigo titles to have (like All-Star Superman and V For Vendetta). I've only read up to the third chapter and it is far deeper than any other comic book I've ever read. In fact, it makes you feel like you're reading a prose novel rather than a graphic novel. The "Under The Hood" excerpts make the story much more intriguing and are very fun to read, and the sketchbook samples give insight to what the novel might have been like and how it came to be that way. Of course, the story is stellar and a perfect example of graphic storytelling at its finest. Be warned, however; this is a dark masterpiece and is certainly not for the light of heart or the squeamish. 5/5 stars!!

The deluxe edition has scans of the original sketches that were done before the final draft. The story of the watchmen itself is in there of course, but the rough draft sketches make the book really cool. You can look through of the ink and pencil sketches to see how they draw everything before its colored and inked. Came really fast, way before it even said it'd be here. Really loved everything. This is a $40 book and I got it for $29.99 really worth every penny.
