I recently purchased this large scale atlas for my mother as sort of an early 80th-birthday present. Mom can still see OK with glasses, can still drive, but as with most people her age she has a hard time with small print and had been complaining for weeks that the old road atlas was largely useless to her now. As I live with her this is also an item that I've been using, and though I can still see more of the regular atlas, I've found this an excellent upgrade for the greater detail and listings of smaller towns, particularly in rural areas.
A word on what you won't find: many other RM and other road atlases for the USA will also include maps of Canada and/or Mexico; this doesn't. The larger scale means the atlas runs to almost 300 pages as is and adding in the rest of North America would have simply made it more bulky/unwieldy. Also, this is spiral-bound which means that many maps have a divide between pages that is a little irritating; but again, at this size a spiral binding makes more sense than the center staple binding of thinner atlases. I think the spiral will hold together a little longer than staples would in this case, and I've gotten quickly used to the splits between parts of states and cities, though it's kind of irritating when a smaller, less detailed city map is split it two - Madison, Wisconsin comes to mind. But I tend to get individual city maps for cities I visit regularly anyway, and that applies as much to use of this atlas as to previous ones I've owned.
These small negatives are far outweighed by the easy-eye type and larger scale of the thing, and I think the size and format were well-chosen - it's not quite unwieldy, and it fits easily into small suitcases and perhaps some laptop cases (though I haven't tried to be sure with the latter).
