So my mother asked what I wanted for christmas and I told her about this book coming out, and being as old as the Transformers and a lifelong fan, she agreed it was a great idea for a Christmas present.
When you order this it comes in a huge box. The outside sleeve is matte black with raised metallic logo and printing on the front. the box itself has a star pattern and some more fancy printing. inside is a black plastic tray and directions on how to use the case.
then you find the shield and the book.
So first off, this is set in, around and about the Aligned continuity. Which is basically the comics, Prime TV series and the war for and Fall of Cybertron Games. As such this explains and NAMES the 13 primes, and goes from there. this is basically the canon bible rewritten and packaged for fans.
While the aligned universe takes a lot of nods from and makes references to the G1 universe, it is still a little bit different, this is NOT G1. Please dont expect that, or you will be VERY disappointed.
on to the shield, theres a handful of complaints here about the shield. Yes it is plastic. It's not die cast. It fits together a little loosely and its awkward to open. It also designed for you to take the book out and hang on the wall. (It will hang with the book in it, but id still be careful, YMMV)
The book is printed on a heavier semi gloss stock than most, the cover is well printed and etched with the face of optimus and the ink and color is beyond that of any of the paperback collected comics. The concept art here is amazing and I've yet to finish reading it, but so far, the writing is on par with that of the comics, not too heady, but its not See Spot Run.
