The Undead Pool Description
Supernatural superhero Rachel Morgan must counter a strange magic that could spell civil war for the Hollows in this sexy and bewitching urban fantasy adventure in acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison's Hollows series.
Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now, strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the races, between Inderlander and human, is shattering. Rachel must stop this dark necromancy before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and all-out supernatural war breaks out.
Rachel knows of only weapon to ensure the peace: ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils. And no one know better than Rachel that no good deed goes unpunished . . .

Let's kick this off with a few of my favorite quotes!
"And the kiss...A tingle raced through me. Slowly my smile faded. Ellasbeth didn't know what she had."
"You've had that elf as your familiar for over a year, and he's not put the sparkle in your scrying mirror even once?"
"Trent leaned back, eyeing us over his scribbled legal pad. ' You have amazing friends.'
'I need them to stay alive through my amazing life,' I said, and Ivy became almost sultry as she pulled herself together in her chair and smiled at Trent."
So this is the book! It's the moment of truth for quite a few readers. Do I really need to explain why at this point? Okay, I'll tell you a story about a witch and an elf...
With pressure building for literally a decade now, that's a LOT for a series to live up to. With 11 books under its belt, Rachel Morgan has gone through quite a bit. Her ties to the Ever After and its never-ending problems in her life continue. In Ever After she had to save the parallel universe from shrinking due to her faulty ley line. Now her home town has to deal with dangerous magic causing routine spells to backfire, leading to countless accidents, injuries, and pure chaos all over the city. With magic in shambles, the race relations among all species--human and Inderlander alike--soon follow.
Undead vampires are down but not quite out, so Rachel has to figure out what's wrong with the magic in order for them to restore balance before this madness leads to a point of no return. To do this will require her to tap into wild elven magic. It's as unpredictable as it is ancient, so I think it's safe to say our favorite itchy witch has her work cut out for her (the story of her life).
Rachel Morgan, day-walking demon witch, is at it again. Charms are misfiring all over Cincinnati and all roads lead back to Rachel. Trent Kalamack, Cinci's very own elven hottie is betrothed to Ellasbeth, and Rachel fights the urge to rip his clothes off and claim him for herself. All the master vampires in the city are snoozing and a rebel of free vamps are running rampant. Felix still has his fangs deep into Nina, and Ivy struggles to break his hold. And Jenks, with his larger than life personality, continues to woo readers with his colorful vocabulary.
I was sad going into this read, having the misconception that this would be Kim Harrison's final installment of the Hollows series. BUT...I am ecstatic to say that is not the case. The Hollows series will come to a close in 2015 when Book 13 is published. In a Q&A session with Harper Voyager, Harrison states:
"I've long told readers that my goal is a happy ending for everyone. I probably should have said my goal is a happy ending for everyone who survives."
So of course that bodes the question...who will NOT survive? I hate to even think it, because he is my favorite character, but it seems a natural progression that Jenks may be slated for a one way trip into the light. The latter books are riddled with hints that Jenks doesn't have much more pixie dust to sprinkle. As the oldest living pixie, he has been around the block; loved and lost his soul mate, and watched many of his fifty four children leave the nest. I realize his lifespan reset when he was transformed into a human, but that was way back in A Fistful of Charms, book 4 of the series. I'm bracing myself for this possible outcome, but suspect it'll still force me to whip out the tissues if it comes to fruition.
