I am seeing this Exam Prep software and book being "dissed" because it is "not for 2013." Fiddle faddle. Of course it is for 2013. What this book has been based upon is the SPHR Body of Knowledge developed in 2012. Just google that and you will find a very fine list from the organization's website of the "Body of Knowledge". These things don't change all the time, these are simply a list of all the main criteria for the associations certification testing. It is not the details of that knowledge. I dare say you can read through that "Body of Knowledge", most recently established in 2012, and not have most/any of the relevant facts/details for your testing. The details change from year to year (slightly, usually) because of new laws. I saw nothing omitted from this that I would want my students to know (save those from California which have some unique laws and details to know). Could there be some small detail missing here because of the 2012 focus? I have not found any, though more importantly, there are sometimes gaps in the testing prep training, regardless of year being produced for. Be more concerned about that. And with the Sybex Exam Online Prep Tools that are part of this, I don't see any better way of keeping current. Included with this set is access to those tools, including PDF's of updates and appendixes. The online tools include two more practice tests as well. You are well covered.
Now that this is out of the way, how does this training stack up?
I love the systematic approach since this is the one way to build confidence in preparing for the test. Random questions and "key topics" just doesn't give you the studied approach that systematically goes through all the requirements. You build on your knowledge-base and you get a sense of completeness.
